Aganetha Dyck’s Newest Collaboration

Dyck

For the past two years, Aganetha Dyck has been working with the Tyler School of Art, Temple University in Philadelphia, PA on a new collaborative project.

In the spring of 2015, Dyck purchased 7 used porcelain figurines and shipped them to Philadelphia.   In order to have the bees work on the figurines “live” in the gallery, they are housed in a china cabinet.  The china cabinet has hive frames filled with honeybees and is connected to the outdoors and another hive.  Visitors to the gallery are able to watch the progress live and the plan is to have an online-bee cam available.  Dyck works virtually with the beekeeper and the gallery staff, monitoring the progress of the figurines.  She informs the beekeeper where to place starter comb on the figurines, where to carve out, where to add wax, and informs them when the work is complete.
