Our 30th year in business was highlighted by strong exhibitions, fun parties, our first pop-up art show, a newly energized Art Toronto, paying off the mortgage on the building, the purchase of a smart car and the addition of new artists: Ufuk Gueray, Terrance Houle, Dorothy Knowles, Jason McLean and Mark Mullin.
Jason McLean’s November exhibition was his first solo exhibition at the gallery and featured strong large scale drawings influenced by his life living in Brooklyn, NY with his family. A review in Magenta Magazine and a forthcoming review in Border Crossings as well as sales to private collectors and two banks made the show a great success.
Ufuk Gueray’s “Lithograph Stone” series of paintings sold out at Art Toronto. We are looking forward to Ufuk’s exhibition of new paintings this spring / summer.
Terrance Houle’s humorous performance during our annual Summer Sizzling Soiree capped off an already lively evening.
As one of Canada’s most distinguished landscape painters, we are honoured to now show Dorothy Knowles. Her exhibition of watercolour paintings this past December simply sparkled in our middle gallery.
Calgary painter Mark Mullin’s April exhibition was his first solo at the gallery. Having watched Mullin’s work develop for years we were very happy to introduce his theatrical abstract paintings to Ontario. In April we also exhibited for the first time a small selection of Inuit prints and drawings from the 2014 Cape Dorset Print Collection.
James Kirkpatrick’s 2-day-only pop-up exhibition in Bayfield was a blast and featured nautical themed paintings that drew inspiration from his childhood spent in Bayfield. This March, James is off to the Banff Centre to participate in the three week Convergence Residency that focuses on electronic music and visual art.
Erik Olson’s October exhibition of new portrait paintings was inspired by his past year living in Dusseldorf, Germany and studying at the Kunstakademie. The show sold very well and we shipped paintings to LA, Chicago and to various homes & businesses across Canada.
For the 16th consecutive year we exhibited at Art Toronto. The new floor design of the fair created a renewed energy and steady sales. Our booth featured a balance of young emerging artists with key works from the estates of Paterson Ewen and Greg Curnoe.
