In conjunction with the release of the magazine, Prefix ICA is thrilled to host the opening reception for Newfoundlandings, a solo exhibition by Michael Snow, one of Canada’s most revered artists. The exhibition is curated by Scott McLeod and presented as a primary exhibition of the Scotiabank Contact Photography Festival.
Prefix Institute of Contemporary Art is pleased to announce the release of the thirty-fifth issue of Prefix Photo magazine. On the subject of “nation states,” acting editor Scott McLeod writes: “At this time, both private corporations and private individuals have amassed unfathomable wealth—and hence wield greater power—than many of the world’s nations. Globalization, war and climate change, with their concomitant effects on geographical and man-made borders, have likewise eroded the stability, strength and autonomy of the nation state. And, yet, the idea of the nation, for many, remains compelling. This issue of Prefix Photo addresses the notion of the nation state with its many contradictions, uncertainties and complexities.”
